American Armed Forces Conducts Lethal Attack in Eastern Pacific, Resulting in Four Fatalities
According to a senior military official, the American military carried out a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four people.
âJoint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Intelligence verified the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was involved in illicit drug transport. All four male drug traffickers were killed, and no US military forces were harmed.â
Context and Recent Actions
The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, vowing to increase the military buildup.
Just on Tuesday, the Pentagon stated it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Defends Tactics Amidst Scrutiny
The administration has faced growing pressure to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has defended its efforts as a successful operation, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the bounds of legal military action.
Although the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide seemed to confirm a broader geopolitical objective. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor said the president âaims to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president surrenders or concedes.â
This suggests the military campaign may be part of a strategy to remove Venezuela's sitting government.
