Finn had a key role in the well-loved sitcom The Middle.

American performer Pat Finn, who was seen in popular TV shows like Friends, Seinfeld and "The Middle", has passed away at the age of 60.

The skilled improv artist succumbed at his home in Los Angeles on Monday following treatment for a cancer diagnosis from 2022 onward, according to media reports.

"Pat saw everyone as a friend - only friends he didn't know yet," his family said in a statement.

They added that he had "experienced life to the fullest - with zest and passion".

An Extensive Career on Screen

Finn's first television role was on the George Wendt Show in 1995, where he appeared as the brother of the main character.

He also had a regular part on Murphy Brown in the latter half of the 1990s.

He starred as the character Joe Mayo in "Seinfeld" in 1998, playing a host known to delegate tedious tasks to his guests.

Throughout the end of the 90s and start of the 2000s, he had guest spots on numerous hit series, including:

  • "King of Queens"
  • "Friends"
  • That '70s Show
  • "House"

Finn was perhaps best known for playing the character Bill Norwood in The Middle, starring in eight seasons of the show from 2011 to 2018.

His film credits are It's Complicated and Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups.

Beyond the Screen

Outside of his television work, Finn was a skilled improviser and worked as a teacher at the Colorado university, where he was an adjunct professor.

He was involved with a six-person improv troupe called "Beer Shark Mice".

"Finn coached, befriended and mentored many learners during his career and you'd be hard-pressed to find someone anywhere who has an unkind word to say about him," his loved ones expressed.

Offering condolences, colleague and actor actor Richard Kind said there was "not a more kind, gentle, or funny, authentic human being you could encounter".

"Always positive, helping you be funnier and better. A wonderful father and man," Kind wrote publicly.

Finn is survived by his wife Donna, three children, and his parents and siblings.
