Jurgen Klopp says a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback is something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell which brought continental glory and the Premier League crown since 1990, currently occupies roles in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured the league title in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the idea that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I said I won't manage any other side in England. Therefore should it be the Reds...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests I could make the decision later on, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be under bad weather through long matches; I'm glad to skip press conferences multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, yet sharing a meal with the team talking freely, I appreciate that. With many victories thus frequently great spirits around the place. I can still hear the captain's chuckle in my ear for example.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks that took the title last term. They've been defeated four in a row across various tournaments following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the idea it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, excellent performer. This is a well-built balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, along with the consequences at the club. Jota was killed in a car crash alongside his brother recently.
“How do you replace a person like him? It goes beyond the player himself, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad too. No one within the club will ever use it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Coping with it on a personal level is difficult. Overwhelming.”
