The Showrunner Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed series reaching its finale—and the next chapter officially in the works—the writers' room reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Fan Response

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the widespread acclaim and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is striving to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Will Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff are not listening by fan response, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a decent plan for a better idea. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, why mess with the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
