Trump Calls Relatives of Attacked Military Soldiers to the White House
President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.
He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Memorials across the state have been held in their memory.
Presidential Invitation
The president explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Reaction
Community members assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to aid policing efforts in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her previous school, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, compassionate and always eager to support those in need.”
Service arrangements for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Judicial Actions and Policy Adjustments
Officials have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The incident led the government to halt refugee claims and halt providing entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a MP with distinction, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” he told the audience at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
